" Bastante curiosidad tenía ante el primer concierto de The Rasmus en Chile. Varios amigos que habían tenido la oportunidad de verlos en festivales en Europa, me habían dado muy buenas referencias acerca del show del cuarteto finlandés y que ignorara los comentarios de puristas que los tildaban como una banda de mentira. En el viejo continente, sus potentes shows, incluso les generaron alabanzas y galardones de publicaciones de Hard Rock como la Kerrang, que los nominó como uno de los mejores actos en vivo del 2003.

Al llegar al Estadio Víctor Jara, un ambiente inédito de paz reinaba en los alrededores (los rostros de tranquilidad de los encargados de seguridad lo decían todo). Al entrar un orden colegial (inusitado en jornada anteriores) reflejaba la audiencia, que no superaba en promedio los 16 años (sin contar la edad de los padres que acompañaban a los más pequeños). Otro elemento que me motivaba del espectáculo, era presenciar como se paraba Libra por primera vez ante un público que no estaba familiarizado con su sonido. Poco más de media hora duro su presentación y creo que el balance para ellos debe haber sido más que positivo. Sonaron bastante bien y fueron recibidos con respeto por parte de la gente . Tocaron los temas más orejas de su debut como “Sobrevolando” y “Un día más”. Me dio bastante gusto lo bien que les salió todo. Ojalá que este año logren diversificar su audiencia y no sólo compartan cartel con bandas “Nu-Metal”, ya que con su propuesta pueden llegar a mucha más gente.

Luego de un breve lapsus, a las 9 de la noche, se apagan las luces y la histeria colectiva de las fans con gritos ensordecedores (dignos de un show de Arjona en la Quinta Vergara) invadieron el Victor Jara, que se encontraba a la mitad de su capacidad. “Night After Night”, segundo corte de su última producción “Hide From the Sun” abrió el concierto. La algarabía de la joven pero fiel audiencia se mantuvo durante la hora y media que duró el recital, coreando sin cesar todas las canciones que abarcaron sus dos últimos discos, donde obviamente el exitoso “Dead Letters” tuvo mayor presencia en el set.

Todos los elogios que había escuchado, eran más que justificados. Obviando a la mayoría de sus seguidores en Chile, The Rasmus es una banda de verdad y con un directo muy potente. Al escuchar su música no se pueden negar las similitudes con sus compatriotas HIM y las evidentes influencias de clásicos como Bon Jovi o Europe. Una mención destacada merece la sólida performance de su guitarrista Pauli Rantasalami, quien ha sabido con creces imprimir su status de productor prestigioso en Europa (que le ha valido varias nominaciones en los Grammy finlandeses ) en el sonido del grupo.

Como era de esperarse, los finlandeses guardaron la mayoría de sus hits para el final como “No Fear” e “In The Shadows”. Varias infantes se agarraron literalmente de las mechas, por las baquetas y uñetas que lanzaron los agradecidos integrantes de The Rasmus al finalizar el espectáculo. Pese a que no se llenó el Estadio (aproximadamente unas dos mil personas), siempre es bueno ver la considerable convocatoria que tienen los eventos de rock en nuestro país, pese a que en este caso corresponda a su corriente más comercial. Obviamente va ser mejor ver a un niño de 11 años, asistiendo a un show de The Rasmus, que escuchando el mentado Reggaeton o apoyando a un solista inventado por un canal de televisión. Por algo se parte y el Pop Rock con toques góticos de estos finlandeses es un respetable inicio."
